Common job conversions
Inches to decimal feet
Takeoffs are often easier in decimal feet. Divide the inches by 12, so 6" is 0.5 ft, 3" is 0.25 ft, and 8" is about 0.67 ft.
| Inches | Decimal feet |
|---|---|
| 1" | 0.08 |

Square feet to squares
Divide by 100. A 2,400 sq ft roof is 24 squares. The roofing calculator works this out with your pitch and waste.
Cubic feet to cubic yards
Divide by 27. Concrete, mulch and gravel are usually ordered by the yard, so the concrete calculator and mulch and gravel calculator show both.
