Which should you pick?

Pick QuoTrak if

You're a solo tradesperson or a small crew without a dispatcher, and pricing jobs properly is the problem

Live margin on every quote, one-click invoices, Stripe payments, change orders and job costing, from free, with Pro at $12 USD a month.

Pick Housecall Pro if

You book and dispatch multiple technicians a day and want booking, texting and marketing in the same system

That's what Housecall Pro is for, and its Essentials and MAX plans are priced for a team that lives in it.

The short version

Housecall Pro is field service management for home-service businesses: online booking, a drag-and-drop schedule, dispatch, customer texting, review requests and marketing, with estimates, invoicing, card payments and job costing built in. Basic is $59 USD a month billed annually for one user, Essentials $149 for five, MAX $299 for eight, each with a 14-day trial and no free plan.

QuoTrak is quoting and invoicing software for trade contractors. It doesn't schedule or dispatch, and it doesn't try to. What it does differently is put your costs behind every line so the quote shows profit and margin as you price it, on every plan including the free one. Pro is $12 USD a month billed annually with no per-user fees and adds email sending, payment links, quoted-versus-actual job costing, change orders, templates, Field Mode and QuickBooks or Xero sync.

Where Housecall Pro is the better choice

If you have technicians to dispatch, Housecall Pro is built for the way your day runs and QuoTrak isn't. Online booking that drops straight into the schedule, drag-and-drop dispatch, GPS tracking of the crew, automatic "on my way" texts, review requests after the job and a marketing suite are all there and work together. It also has job costing on every plan and a price book your office and your techs share. For a company with an office and three or more vans, that scope is the point, and the price is in line with it.

Where QuoTrak is the better choice

What you gain

  • Margin before you send. Costs behind every line, profit and margin updating as you price. Housecall Pro's job costing tells you afterwards.
  • A fraction of the price. Free with no expiry; Pro at $12 USD a month versus $59 USD for one user or $149 for five.
  • No seat counting. Pro is one price; Housecall Pro charges $35 USD per extra user on MAX.
  • Change orders with their own margin, attached to the project so quoted-vs-actual stays honest through the job.
  • Xero as well as QuickBooks, plus Google Sheets export for your own reporting.

What you give up

  • Scheduling, dispatch and GPS crew tracking. QuoTrak has a project calendar and Field Mode, not a dispatch board.
  • Online booking, customer texting, review requests and marketing.
  • A large company with phone support and a long track record. QuoTrak is small and new.

Switching from Housecall Pro

Export customers and your price book from Housecall Pro as CSV and import them on QuoTrak Pro. Open estimates are quickest to rebuild from a template; any line you save to your catalog keeps its price and costs for next time. Some contractors keep both for a while: QuoTrak to price and cost jobs, Housecall Pro for the schedule, with both syncing to QuickBooks. If you don't need dispatch, running only QuoTrak is simpler and far cheaper. To try the editor first, the free quote generator needs no account.

Questions

Is QuoTrak a Housecall Pro alternative?

For quoting, invoicing, job costing and online payment, yes. Housecall Pro is a full field service platform with scheduling, dispatch, online booking, customer texting and marketing on top of that. QuoTrak replaces the quoting and billing half at a fraction of the price and adds live margin while you quote; it does not replace the scheduling and dispatch half.

How much does Housecall Pro cost compared with QuoTrak?

Housecall Pro's Basic plan is $59 USD a month billed annually ($79 month-to-month) for one user, Essentials is $149 ($189) for five users and MAX is $299 ($329) for eight users, with a 14-day trial and no free plan. QuoTrak's Free plan costs nothing with no time limit, and Pro is $12 USD a month billed annually ($144 a year) or $15 monthly with no per-user fees. Prices checked on each company's pricing page in October 2026.

Does Housecall Pro show profit margin while quoting?

Housecall Pro includes job costing, which reports profitability on jobs as costs and hours are logged. QuoTrak shows the margin on the quote itself, line by line, as you build it, so you adjust the price before the customer sees it.

Can I use QuoTrak alongside Housecall Pro?

Some contractors do: QuoTrak for pricing jobs with live margin and for the change-order and job-costing side, Housecall Pro for the schedule. Both sync to QuickBooks Online. But if you don't need dispatch, running only QuoTrak is simpler and far cheaper.
